Our Discipleship Pathway is a simple, biblical framework for understanding how people grow as followers of Jesus. It is based on the Four Chair discipleship model developed by Dann Spader. Using the picture of four chairs, this pathway helps us see where we are in our walk with Christ and what our next faithful step might be. The chairs are snapshots of spiritual posture and direction. People may move forward steadily, slowly, or even step backward at times, but the goal is always ongoing growth in Christ.
Chair 1 - Come and See
This chair represents those who are exploring faith, new to Christianity, or still seeking answers. Curiosity is high, understanding may be limited, and commitment is still forming. The focus here is on welcoming, listening, and introducing people to who Jesus is and what it means to trust Him. Growth looks like hearing the gospel, asking honest questions, and beginning to take first steps of faith.
Chair 2 - Follow Me
This chair represents believers who have placed their faith in Christ and are learning what it means to follow Him daily. The emphasis is on spiritual foundations such as learning Scripture, prayer, worship, and life in the church community. People in this chair are growing in obedience and dependence on Christ, even while still needing encouragement, structure, and support. Growth here is about developing spiritual habits and learning to live out a new identity in Christ.
Chair 3 - Fishers of People
This chair represents maturing believers who are actively serving and investing in others. Faith is becoming outward facing. These disciples are using their gifts, sharing their faith, and helping others take steps toward Christ. They are no longer just consuming but contributing. Growth here is marked by responsibility, spiritual discernment, and a growing heart for the mission of the church.
Chair 4 - Go Make Disciples who Make Disciples
This chair represents spiritually mature disciples whose lives are deeply rooted in Christ. Their focus is not on activity alone, but on abiding and remaining dependent on Jesus and bearing lasting fruit. These believers disciple others, lead with humility, and model Christlike character. Their lives show consistency, wisdom, and long term faithfulness shaped by grace rather than performance.
Together, the four chairs help us walk alongside one another with clarity and compassion, recognizing that everyone is at a different place in their journey. Our purpose is to faithfully help each person take their next step toward maturity in Christ, trusting God to produce the growth in His time. We want to make disciples who reflect the character and priorities of Christ.
